Last Event October 2, 2011 - Tuesday, September 27, 2011

We had a great past weekend of weather and driving. Sunday was our first “ladies day” with a great turnout of 14 novices, made up of 12 ladies, and 2 gents. It was a pleasure to see everyone progress, and I did see lots of smiles. It would be great if we can see some of those folks come out to our regular events. Lots of thanks to those from the club who assisted, including Joel Sinkwich, John McCallum, Ford Nichol, Dan Ferguson, Bryan Lea, Ludwig Stein, Jerry and Anita Pasman, and Chris Butler. Without their assistance this day would not have been possible.

Our last event of the year will be held this Sunday at the airport, usual times. Make sure you have enough tread left for one more go, as it will be a long winter.

cheers,

Fred

Our last events of the 2011 season. - Wednesday, September 21, 2011

This weekend is our 2nd last time to get together for a slalom. The weather looks great, so please come join in the fun if you can.  On Saturday the 24th we will have the usual slalom at Penhold, starting at 8:15 for registration till 9:15, then driver’s meeting, with first cars at 10:00. For those who came out to our last event, we will be using the same course. We will set the course Friday at 4:30, so if you can help out, it would be appreciated.

On Sunday we are holding the inaugural “Powder Puff Derby” or ladies novice day. We are hoping to attract more of the fairer sex, who are sometimes put off by not knowing the course, or for lots of other reasons. The course will be simple, and the object is to come out, get acquainted, have some fun, and maybe do it again. We will start a little later than normal, at 11:00 for first car, so registration from 9:15 to 10:15. I know of about 8 ladies who will be there, so the event is definitely a go.

October 2nd is our last event of the year for slaloms, so if you want some bragging rights for the winter……

I am(with the help of my wife) also going to organize a wine tour to the Okanagan next year, June 21-24th.  If that interests you, please let me know. We have 4 or 5 who have said they will come. Some of the best roads and wine in the world right next door in B.C.

Cheers,

Fred

The Stop-Box - Sunday, September 18, 2011
One of the rules that autocross has is the driver must come to a complete stop at the end of his/her run in the stop box. None of the cones can be hit or moved, especially the one at the exit to the stop-box.

It seems one of our drivers put that rule to the test at our last events. This is a driver that tried very hard not to hit them.

September 24 and 25, 2011 Events - Wednesday, September 14, 2011

The past weekend of slaloming at Penhold was great for those who attended, as they had lots of seat time due to a relatively light turnout. Next events are September 24, and 25.  The 25th will be a ladies day, assuming there is enough interest. We don’t usually ask in advance, but we have not done this before. We will build a very simple course for those who have not slalomed before. It will be very low key, likely starting later than our normal event times. The idea was pitched last year that some of the ladies were hesitant to come out to a regular event, but still had some interest. This will be the perfect chance to do that, so please pass this along to the girls in your life. Can you let me know if it is likely that one of the girls in your life will attend. Of course if you are a girl and a member, you are invited also.

cheers
